When you look around the internet, there are blogs of all types out there. If you’re looking to get started in blogging, you may be wondering which of these is best for you. In this article, I’m going to look at three main types of blogs that you might consider to help you make an informed decision. These are personal blogs, company blogs, and niche blogs.
A personal blog is exactly what it says on the tin, it’s a blog which is based around you as an individual. You might want one of these simply to keep your friends and family informed about what you are doing and to give them an insight into your day-to-day life. You may want to make this more specific, but still based around you as a person. Generally, a personal blog will be of interest to a few people. You may choose to make your personal blog anonymous and to try and get a wider audience. Just for people interested in things you may not wish to say publically, this can be a strategy when launching a personal blog.
A company blog is one that’s based around a particular employer. Now, it may well be a large-scale company blog, something which gives details of news and information about what is happening within the company as a whole. It may be a smaller scale one related to a particular sector of the company, such as a department. It may be even related to an individual within the company that focuses on their working life. Indeed, several businesses encourage their workers to run blogs on the company servers. After all, this gives a personal touch to potential customers of the company.
A niche blog is one that’s based around a particular subject or topic. For instance, you may be writing a niche blog about dogs. This is a subject that a lot of people find they are passionate about. Because this is based around a particular area, you’re looking only to publish stories that are of interest to readership. So, for a dog blog, you may be publishing news about dogs, you may be publishing new products that are available for dogs. The possibilities go on and on. You are focusing on a particular niche with a niche blog and ideally one that you think will be able to make you money in the longer term. However, it may just be one that you’re particularly passionate about.
With that in mind, you should be able to make a decision about what type of blog is the most appropriate for you. If you’re looking to launch a blog for friends and family, perhaps anonymously, this should be a personal blog. If you do something to support your company, and this may be an area you’ve paid for in your day-to-day business life, this would be a company blog. And you’re focusing in on a hobby or a topic on which you think you can make money, this is going to be a niche blog. All of these can be highly appropriate for blogging strategies, but only one will be the best one for your own particular needs.
