If you’re looking to run a profitable online business, it’s really important that you develop a visible online presence that showcases everything you can do. The very best way to do this is to copy what I have done and to set up your own online blog. On the blog, you can post articles and comments which you think will interest other people. When they read those posts, you’ll start to develop friendships and, if you work as a freelancer, you can often pick up clients as a result.
But, how do you get started with a blog? There are two main methods. You can use an existing blog service. The best known of these is WordPress. Or you can install a blog on your own web hosting. I’d recommend the own hosting option, as this gives you much more control over how you use the blog. You can display adverts on it, and introduce additional features that may not be possible if someone else owns the blog. You can also register your own domain name, which is great for advertising purposes. However, if money is tight, you can start off with the free option and migrate across to your own blog service at a later date.
The most important thing is that you post high quality content to the blog on a regular basis. When you’re first getting started, I’d recommend you post two or three times a week. After your blog is established, you can reduce your frequency of posting to weekly or fortnightly. There will be enough high quality content on the blog by that point to satisfy the search engines, and to amuse new visitors to the blog page. You will be using the blog primarily as an advertising mechanism and the superb content you’re offering will show that you can deliver.
Relate your posts to the product or service that you’re offering. For instance, if you’re a writing mom, make sure that you include posts about how to improve your writing. Include an advert for your services which is displayed on each page in a very visible position.
By setting up a simple blog, which need not take you a lot of time to establish or maintain, you’re providing a central site with information about yourself. You’re allowing people to contact you who are interested in working with you. And, you’re pushing your online reputation by claiming a small portion of the World Wide Web in your name. Make sure that you set up your own blog today.
