It’s time to rebuff one of the biggest misconceptions that people typically have about being seen as an expert.

This needs a mindset shift. It’s probably something that’s holding you back in your Internet Marketing or niche business right now.

When people think about experts on radio or television, they often think about people with high powered academic qualifications.  This may be a degree, a masters or even a high powered qualification like a PhD.

The world of Internet expertise is very different to that of academic expertise. Do you really need these qualifications to be seen an expert by the people who are speaking to you, buying from you and following you as a guru?

T short answer to that question is no.  Generally, you might say that a qualification would help add some credibility and I’d be inclined to agree with you, but it most certainly isn’t necessary credential to be a successful marketer on the internet. If you do have any kind of academic qualification, even if it’s in a field completely different to the one in which you’re positioning yourself as an Internet expert, this could be highly valuable for you.  The reasons for this are simple. It shows that you have a level of academic commitment and an ability to succeed in something.  These are the exact same skills you need to be seen as an expert.

But having a degree is not the be all and end all.

And, in many niches, having a closely related degree doesn’t isn’t possible. You can’t get a degree in scrapbooking, or making fine wine at home, or whatever your money niche might be. And, personally, I don’t see much value to the Internet Marketing degrees that are starting to appear from some colleges and universities.

There are so many other ways to get your own level of expertise across to the people interested in working with you.

I believe that just by being visible on the Internet positions you as an expert straight away. You need your name associated with different products and across many pages. If you can get your name associated with other successful people, that’s even better. I’ve produced bonus products to be given away, at no cost, by other successful marketers just to help my own business through this positive positioning.

I recommend that you make yourself look visible on the internet by using whatever mechanism are important to you.  This may be by posting to forums or by running your own blog and posting high quality content. There are lots of other alternatives out there.

Keep yourself visible and build up a following. Soon your lack of qualifications really won’t make a difference into how you can be seen as an expert.
